What are the most popular styles of hearing aids currently available on the market?
June 2023.
This isn't a complete list of every style of hearing aid available, but it is a general overview of the types of hearing aids that are currently available.
In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids: These are custom-made hearing aids that fit directly into the ear canal or in the outer ear. They are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.
Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids: These are hearing aids that sit behind the ear and are connected to an ear mold or a small dome that sits inside the ear canal. They are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.
Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) hearing aids: These are similar to BTE hearing aids, but instead of a tube and ear mold, they have a thin wire and a small speaker that sits in the ear canal. They are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.
Completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids: These are custom-made hearing aids that fit deep inside the ear canal, making them almost invisible. They are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
In-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids: These are custom-made hearing aids that fit into the ear canal, but not as deeply as CIC hearing aids. They are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Invisible-in-the-canal (IIC) hearing aids: These are custom-made hearing aids that fit deep inside the ear canal and are completely invisible. They are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Extended wear hearing aids: These are hearing aids that are worn continuously for several months at a time, without the need for removal or maintenance. They are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Bone conduction hearing aids: These are hearing aids that bypass the outer and middle ear, and instead use vibrations to stimulate the inner ear through the bones of the skull. They are suitable for conductive hearing loss, single-sided deafness, and some types of mixed hearing loss.
Disposable hearing aids: These are low-cost, single-use hearing aids that are suitable for short-term use or for people who cannot afford more expensive hearing aids.
Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids: These are hearing aids that can connect wirelessly to smartphones, computers, and other Bluetooth-enabled devices, allowing for audio streaming and other advanced features. They are suitable for a wide range of hearing loss.
